Sophie, born 1996 in Erkelenz/Germany, is a multi-talented movement artist specialised in contemporary dance and dance theatre. Furthermore, she works in the fields choreography, acting and production management and is a certified GYROKINESIS® teacher.

She often takes on several different roles in the same project and enjoys the challenge of handling a variety of tasks simultaneously.

Her roots in performance arts lay in the carnival culture, prevalent in the area of Germany where she grew up. From a young age, she has performed on stage in various disciplines such as show dance, comedy, moderation and acting. She additionally started taking classes in jazz and modern dance and classical ballet. Creative work on stage, to her, opened up as a colourful, joyful and versatile field.

At the age of sixteen, she joined the Youth Ensemble of Theater Krefeld and Mönchengladbach directed by Silvia Behnke who became her close mentor for the following years. It was there that Sophie deepened her knowledge in modern dance technique and physical theatre which made her want to become a professional dancer herself.

After graduating from high school with honours, she was accepted at IWANSON International School of Contemporary Dance in Munich in 2016. During her studies there, she had the opportunity to work with internationally renowned choreographers such as Yael Cibulski, Hannes Langolf, Nadine Gerspacher, Alessandro Sousa Pereira, Zoe Gyssler and Sonia Rodriguez. In 2018 she received a scholarship of the IWANSON-SIXT foundation for a guest training at Cie. Cobosmika’s SEEDs programme in Palamos/Spain. In 2019, she received her stage diploma.

Her first engagements in the professional theatre world included opera productions at Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, like “Eugen Onegin” where she - in addition to her role as a dancer - took on the choreographic assistance and led dance rehearsals. Besides that, she was part of the ensemble for the musical “Green Day’s: American Idiot” which was a co-production of prestigious Theaterakademie August Everding in Munich and Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck/Austria.

When moving to Stuttgart in 2020, she became a member of Produktionszentrum Tanz + Performance where she met many allies and future collaborators. She built a strong interdisciplinary network including artists and collectives such as Smadar Goshen, Nina Kurzeja/BLOMST!, Eva Baumann/Cie. ZEIT/GEIST, Viktoriia Vitrenko/InterAKT, SAAL FREI platform for improvisation arts, CAMP Festival for Visual Music and DieTanzKompanie by Grégory Darcy.

Moreover, Sophie has worked with institutions such as the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester (SKO) and at Staatsoper Stuttgart. Beyond the Stuttgart scene, she worked with choreographers William Sánchez H., Lior Lev, Jo Parkes and Carla Jordão, among others.

She was involved in several film and music video productions and has produced her own short film “STAYING INSIDE” which was shown at tanz.tausch tanz + performance festival in Mönchengladbach and Cologne in 2023 and was part of the official selection of international Zezerecinedancefestival in Ferreira do Zêzere/Portugal in 2024.

Her work pursues an interdisciplinary and inclusive approach and collaborations with other artists often unfold in site-specific, interactive or educational performance contexts.

In 2024, she moved back to her hometown in North Rhine-Westphalia and is partly based there and in Amsterdam/The Netherlands.
